The Great Salt Lake averages approximately 75 miles long and 35 miles wide, with an average depth of 20 feet, and 10,000 feet of shoreline. As you can see, the Great Salt Lake is one of the biggest lakes in North America – not just Utah.

Obviously Utah was originally founded by Indians, and then trappers and adventurers, but the first large scale established part of Utah was founded by Brigham Young. Seeking refuge from persecution, he brought LDS settlers into Utah to settle.
